Pet entry requirements: Dog → Isle of Man

These are the requirements for entering Isle of Man with a dog, based on a departure from Germany/the EU. Requirements can change — always confirm with the relevant authority before you travel.

🔴 Required

🔖

Microchip Required

Microchipping is a condition for import (Isle of Man/UK). The Isle of Man source names no ISO standard, timing or identification details. Source context: general sentence on the DEFA page 'Rescue Dog Considerations' (dogs from abroad); for details per origin the DEFA main page refers to the GB rules.

💉

Rabies vaccination Required

Rabies vaccination is a condition for import. The Isle of Man source states no minimum age, waiting period or validity. Source context: general sentence on the DEFA page 'Rescue Dog Considerations' (dogs from abroad); for details per origin the DEFA main page refers to the GB rules.

🪱

Parasite treatment Required

Tapeworm treatment is a condition for import of dogs. For the EU-to-IoM route the Isle of Man source states no treatment window and no exemptions. Source context: general sentence on the DEFA page 'Rescue Dog Considerations' (dogs from abroad); for details per origin the DEFA main page refers to the GB rules.

🐾

Breed restrictions Prohibited

Import into the Isle of Man is prohibited for these dog types: XL Bully, Pit Bull Terrier, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Japanese Tosa (XL Bully since 22 Nov 2023). Appearance decides, not breed or name. UK Certificates of Exemption are not valid in the Isle of Man.

⚠️ Notes & grey zone

⚠️

Grey zone

For EU-to-IoM the Isle of Man source itself lists no individual rules but refers to the UK Government page 'Bringing your pet dog, cat or ferret to Great Britain' (gov.uk, deliberately not used as evidence here). The IoM also stresses it is not part of the UK (certification). Microchip/rabies/tapeworm are evidenced only by one general sentence; titer, certificate/AHC, minimum age, deadlines, quarantine and import permit remain unchecked. The sentence mentions 'pet passport'; whether an EU pet passport from DE is accepted is not stated. IoM-specific deviations from the GB regime: breed ban incl. XL Bully (no GB exemption certificate) and route restriction.

ℹ️

Notes

The Isle of Man Government (DEFA) treats dogs, cats and ferrets together: import from the EU is 'generally the same' as to Great Britain. Entry route: via an approved route to GB and clearing the GB border before onward travel to the IoM, unless travelling by air with a DEFRA-authorised pet transporter and by prior arrangement with DEFA; no direct landing by private air or private boat from EU countries (exception: Republic of Ireland). Dogs are subject to the breed ban above; cats are covered by the same source text, a cat export must be captured separately.
