Pet entry requirements: Cat → Sint Maarten
These are the requirements for entering Sint Maarten with a cat, based on a departure from Germany/the EU. Requirements can change — always confirm with the relevant authority before you travel.
🔴 Required
Import permit Required
Yes - Animal Movement Permit from the Ministry of TEATT required before entry, online application; the page covers dogs, cats and ferrets.
Microchip Required
Yes - microchip (alternatively only a readable tattoo applied before 2011); the number must appear on the health certificate.
Rabies vaccination Required
Yes - rabies vaccination by/under supervision of a licensed veterinarian; immunity must be valid at entry (1 or 3 years). First vaccination or revaccination after expiry: 21-day waiting period; timely revaccination: no waiting period. Stated on the health certificate or a separate rabies certificate.
Minimum age / young animals Required
Yes - minimum age 15 weeks (animals under 15 weeks may not enter).
Why 15 weeks? The rabies vaccination can only be given from 12 weeks of age, and it becomes valid 21 days later — so ~15 weeks is the earliest an animal can travel. This is the harmonised EU rule (Reg. 2016/429) and applies to travel within the EU too.
Other tests Required
Yes (cat vaccinations, certified on the health certificate): feline leukemia, rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, panleukopenia, pneumonitis. (The dog vaccinations do not apply to cats.)
Parasite treatment Required
Yes - treatment against internal and external parasites (esp. Amblyomma, Boophilus) by/under supervision of a veterinarian; treatment must be valid at entry; product, date and validity on the health certificate. The older 2022 version adds a negative fecal flotation test and external treatment 7-14 days before departure (see grey_zone).
Health certificate Required
Yes - valid International Health Certificate by an accredited veterinarian, endorsed by the Chief Veterinary Officer of the exporting country (for DE: the competent veterinary authority); in English or Dutch. The EU pet passport does not replace it.
Official endorsement of the health certificate Required
The certificate must be officially endorsed (signature and stamp or seal of the government agency responsible for veterinary public health in the exporting country).
⚠️ Notes & grey zone
Grey zone
Sources are dated (Conditions Version 2022, IETA version 'Applicable until December 31st, 2023') and differ: the 2022 version requires a negative fecal test and external parasite treatment 7-14 days before departure, the IETA version only 'valid at the time of entry'. No source mentions titer or quarantine. All sources are on one domain, hence no numeric fields.
Notes
Endorsement of the certificate is valid for 14 days from endorsement (certificate template); permit application 14 to 5 days before arrival. Sint Maarten (Dutch part) only, not Saint-Martin (French part). Emotional support/service animals are not exempt.
