What Alaska requires when a cat arrives — whoever you are arriving from. These rules hang off the arrival, not the trip type: a flight from Frankfurt and a flight from Los Angeles are treated the same here. Requirements can change — always confirm with the authority before you travel.
These requirements come on top of the country's — they can only tighten or add, never loosen.
The animal must be accompanied by a current rabies certificate.
⚠️ The regulation names no age threshold — it refers to 7 AAC 27.022 for that, and we do not have that section. We therefore record no age figure.
Alaska requires a health certificate from a licensed and accredited veterinarian in the state or country of origin. It needs a unique, traceable number, origin and destination addresses, certification of freedom from disease, an accurate description of the animal including microchip, and the dates and records of required vaccinations. Valid for 30 days.
If the initial rabies vaccination was given less than 30 days before import, the animal must be confined for the balance of the 30 days.
An import permit is needed only for animals from a rabies quarantine area. Entering without a certificate risks a quarantine ordered by the state veterinarian at the owner's expense. Animals originating from a quarantine area designated by another state, the federal government or a foreign country may not be imported at all.

Arriving from Germany/the EU, the national entry requirements of USA apply on top. Arriving from another part of the same country means crossing no international border — then only the section above applies.
Not required by US authorities; however, nearly all airlines require a health certificate (veterinary certificate, often valid max. 10 days before departure). Please check with your airline.
