Arriving in California with a dog
What California requires when a dog arrives — whoever you are arriving from. These rules hang off the arrival, not the trip type: a flight from Frankfurt and a flight from Los Angeles are treated the same here. Requirements can change — always confirm with the authority before you travel.

Rabies vaccination Required
For dogs from 4 months of age, documentation of a current rabies vaccination is required. The animal must be healthy.
⚠️ The SB 312 CVI requirement applies only to imports for a change of ownership (sale, adoption), not to your own pet travelling with you. For international arrivals the authority refers to USDA Veterinary Services; whether the state requirement applies alongside is not stated.

Arriving from abroad? The rules of USA
Arriving from Germany/the EU, the national entry requirements of USA apply on top. Arriving from another part of the same country means crossing no international border — then only the section above applies.
