Pet entry requirements: Dog → Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba
These are the requirements for entering Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba with a dog, based on a departure from Germany/the EU. Requirements can change — always confirm with the relevant authority before you travel.
🔴 Required
Rabies vaccination Required
A valid proof of rabies vaccination is mandatory (Besluit Art. 2(2), Art. 1(a) = dog). Per the customs page: vaccination under 12 weeks of age is not valid, vaccination at least 21 days before departure. The figures appear only on the customs page (not in the Besluit) and are therefore not adopted as numeric fields.
Minimum age / young animals Required
Minimum age 15 weeks for dog and cat (customs page; vaccination earliest at 12 weeks plus 21 days wait). Single source (customs), the Besluit names no figure.
Why 15 weeks? The rabies vaccination can only be given from 12 weeks of age, and it becomes valid 21 days later — so ~15 weeks is the earliest an animal can travel. This is the harmonised EU rule (Reg. 2016/429) and applies to travel within the EU too.
Health certificate Required
A valid health declaration is required (Besluit Art. 2(1)); per the customs page signed by an official or accredited veterinarian. No issue window and no form named. Applies to dogs and cats together.
⚠️ Notes & grey zone
Grey zone
Under the Besluit quarantine is only the consequence of non-compliance with the entry conditions (Art. 3), not an unconditional duty; hence not captured as a quarantine field. No microchip, titer, parasite treatment, import permit or EU pet passport named in the sources (silence, not captured). No per-island split.
Notes
Import and transit of apes, dogs and cats from mainland South and Central America (except Suriname) is forbidden; does not affect DE origin. Exception: pets of a person settling permanently on Bonaire/Sint Eustatius/Saba who has owned them for at least four months. If rabies proof is missing, the Minister may have the animal vaccinated at the carrier's cost (Art. 6). Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba are regulated together; dogs and cats together.
